How can we help?
Answers to the common questions. If yours isn’t here, write to us — a person reads every message.
Getting started
Do I need to know any Japanese?
No. Pick your level when you start — from “I can’t read hiragana yet” to advanced. Complete beginners get romaji under every word and a hiragana starter deck.
How do I save a word?
Tap any word in the transcript. The video pauses and the word card opens. Tap Save to Vocab; the word turns into a dashed magenta line and comes back for review.
What do the underlines mean?
They show the word’s stage. Solid lime is New, dashed magenta is Learning, no line is Known.
Can I turn off furigana or romaji?
Yes. Tap Aa under the video, or go to Profile → Transcript. You can also hide the translation until you tap it.
Review
How does review work?
Saved words come back right before you’d forget them. Tap Good and the gap grows; tap Again and it comes back later in the session. After 21 days between reviews a word counts as Known.
I have a lot of cards waiting. What now?
Mimiko splits a big backlog into short sessions of 20 cards. Do one a day and the pile shrinks without a marathon.
A clip on my card says “Video no longer available”.
The creator removed the video from YouTube. The sentence and translation stay on your card; only the clip is gone.
Subscription & billing
How does the free trial work?
New subscribers get a free trial. You’re charged when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before. The exact date is on Profile → Subscription.
How do I cancel?
Subscriptions are handled by Apple. Go to iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Mimiko, or Profile → Manage subscription in the app. Deleting your account doesn’t cancel a subscription.
How do I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
I paid but the app still shows the paywall.
Tap Restore purchases on the paywall or in Profile, signed in with the Apple ID you paid with.
Account & data
Moving to a new iPhone
Sign in with Apple using the same Apple ID on the new phone. Your words, progress and settings come with you.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Profile → Delete account. This removes your words, progress and history, and disconnects Sign in with Apple. Cancel your subscription separately in Apple settings.
Is Mimiko on Android or iPad?
Mimiko is on iPhone for now.
